Spencer County
A great place to live, work, and play.
Home to the bordering beautiful Ohio River, history of Abraham Lincoln’s Indiana boyhood home, and unique cultural attractions, such as Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, are among many reasons that make Spencer County, Indiana a great place to live, work, and play.
Spencer County, Indiana, also offers many important services provided by local government, businesses, and public agencies. Our community’s deepest beauty is reflected in its people.
We remain a warm and welcoming community, one in which neighbors genuinely care for each other.
Not only is this area home to the same woods Abraham Lincoln walked as a boy, but it is so much more. With incredible schools, top-notch communities, family-oriented attractions, and convenient access to larger cities in every direction, Spencer County is an amazing place to live.
Two school districts provide first-rate educational opportunities that create skilled graduates who are ready to tackle the world. South Spencer and North Spencer School Corporations provide many elementary schools that feed into the two high schools in Spencer County. Private preschool and grade school is also an excellent local choice for families. Facilities for continuing education or specific skill set learning are nearby.

Many communities makeup Spencer County and feature their own unique atmosphere. The Saint Meinrad Archabbey – one of only two in the U.S. – is located in St. Meinrad. The New Boston Tavern in New Boston makes some of the best pork chops you can find. The town of Chrisney is home to the first certified net-zero public library in the state of Indiana. And Grandview sits on the mighty Ohio River with river access.

It’s a rural but convenient spot to raise a family. And it’s a quiet but lively place to retire and entertain grandchildren. Spencer County is many things and would love to be where you call home.
